James Law started out in the electricity industry in 2002 working as an analyst for British Energy where his responsibilities included supporting the structured traders.
In 2007, James moved into the quantative analysis team at EDF where he was responsible for managing a team that provided quantative modelling and analytical resource. With his oversight, the team delivered an earnings at risk model, weather simulation capabilities and optimisation models for gas storage and thermal power stations.
From 2018, James became the Optimisation Lead on the PowerShift project (EDF’s asset management platform). He was responsible for creating the tooling required to get the company’s first assets into the day ahead auction in 2018 with the first customer asset being dispatched within day in April 2019.
