Michel Verschuere holds a Ph. D. in Physics from the university of Leuven in Belgium. He completed a one year fellowship in Energy finance at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria in 2004. Since then, Michel fulfilled roles in risk-management, structured trading for leading European energy companies like EDF Luminus, Verbund Austrian Power Trading and Engie. Michel founded a wholesale operation in renewable energy equipment in 2007 and experienced the booming Solar PV years first hand in this role. In 2012, Michel founded YUSO in Belgium, together with Bart Pycke. The company manages a large portfolio of renewable energy in the open market and has been involved with energy storage since 2015. Recently, YUSO announced the closing of the 25 MW / 100 MWh BESS in Ruien, East-Flanders, Belgium together with Aquila Capital of Germany and Nippon Koei of Japan. The company also integrates behind-the-meter projects with its customer base of over 1200 industrial prosumers. YUSO is active in Belgium, The Netherlands, France and Switzerland. At YUSO, we are convinced storage is the ideal asset class to restore balance between the increasing importance of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the production mix and the demand side which - in the context of the Energy Transition - - is to follow production from RES rather than the other way around in the classical power system context.
