
Chana Abrams
Chana Abrams is the Principal of Channing Law and is an energy project finance lawyer based in London. Since establishing Channing Law in 2017, Chana has worked on landmark clean and renewable energy projects across Africa including in Egypt, Senegal, Zambia, Mozambique, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.
Chana has worked on landmark energy storage Projects, including the largest standalone battery energy storage system in Africa to reach financial close and start construction (the Red Sands BESS Project in South Africa with notice to proceed issued in July 2025) and the first solar IPP in Mozambique to integrate a utility-scale energy storage system (the project has been operational since 2023).
Notably, Chana was appointed as Legal Expert to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) (an inter-governmental organisation comprising of 164 member countries) in relation to the Open Solar Contract Initiative. Chana held the pen on all six contracts: PPA, Implementation, Supply, Installation, O&M and Financing. As part of Chana’s role with IRENA, she developed and implemented governmental training in Africa, as well as for the Government of Iraq.
Chana was also a contributing author in the US Government’s Commercial Law Development Programme (in partnership with the African Legal Support Facility) third handbook in the Power Africa’s “Understanding” series, Understanding Power Procurement.
As noted by Chambers (2026) “Chana is an exceptional lawyer with invaluable experience in large and complex matters”.
