Chiel Borenstein

Chiel graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Environmental Economics and Policy, and shortly after, he started WattTime with one of his best friends, Gavin McCormick, which would later become one of the most prominent and well-respected environmental nonprofits. Ten and a half years later, Chiel is still at WattTime, where he leads commercial efforts – with a particular emphasis on technical partnerships, fundraising, and multi-stakeholder (both internal and external) project management. He strongly believes WattTime is the world’s best chance to beat climate change, having already reduced 80 million tons of CO2 and with the potential to reduce a few billion tons of CO2 in the coming years. Chiel lives his life every day trying to do a little more good in whatever way he can, whether that’s giving a stranger a compliment, helping the UN or Meta and Amazon make strategic investments to fight climate change and save the world, or cooking dinner for his friends and family.
