Matthew Clare

Matt is specialized in leading the development, procurement, construction, and commercial operation of energy projects in the UK, and has vast experience in the acquisition and disposal of large-scale assets at both pre- and post-construction stage. His specialty is battery energy storage, with a strong track record in large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV).

Matt is Senior Vice President, Business Development (Battery Storage) at Masdar, and Chief Executive Officer of Masdar Arlington, following Masdar’s acquisition in 2022 of his business, Arlington Energy.

Prior to establishing Arlington Energy in 2017, Matt had developed and/or acquired a portfolio of over 200 MW of solar PV assets, as well as led a significant pipeline of energy storage projects.

Matt has been recognized by Forbes for his work in the sector, making the list of 30 Under 30 Europe in 2019. In 2016, Matt led the development of Tesla’s first grid-scale Powerpack in Europe, winning multiple awards recognized by Business Green and Solar Power Portal.
